University for Development Studies UDS ranking

University for Development Studies UDS ranking

The University for Development Studies has moved up from 7th to 3rd place in ranking against Universities in Ghana within one year. The rise in rank comes after a series of updates and improvements to the various components that makeup the web presence of the University.
Web rankings for Universities are graded by Visibility (50%) and Activity (50%). Visibility (50%) has to do with the quality of the website’s contents, counting all the external inlinks that the University webdomain receives from third parties. Those links recognize the institutional prestige, the academic performance, the value of the information, and the usefulness of the services as introduced in the webpages according to the criteria of millions of web editors from all over the world. Activity is broken down to three criteria; Presence, Openness and Excellence. Presence (16.67%) has to do with the number of relevant pages on our site, Openness (16.67%) is the impact of our institutional repository and finally Excellence (16.67%) is about the quality of publications from the University Community.
The efforts of the ICT Directorate in upgrading the University’s web presence (website, Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Youtube), the improved level of content from University Relations and student’s academic/work performance has aided an increase in Visibility (which is the biggest contributor to the current rank) and has also increased Presence.

Efforts of the Library in the setup of the University’s Institutional Repository (UDSSpace) have resulted in an increase in Openness and the quality of publications from the University’s Lecturers and Researchers has increased the ranking of Excellence.
Within Africa, The University of Ghana is currently ranked 20th, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is ranked 28th and the University for Development Studies is ranked 103rd, out of the 1441 Tertiary Institutions listed in Africa.
Needless to say, this improvement has resulted from a combined effort of the University Community; kudos to all!! The ICT Directorate and University Relations will continue to improve the web presence of our august University.
God bless UDS!! God bless Ghana!!
